Large amounts of stratospheric air samples were collected over the Antarctic region up to 30km altitude for the first time in history. This was the first balloon payload recovery trial at the station. For the balloon experiment, various systems and equipments are prepared including a scientific instrument, a telemetry and telecommand, a balloon rigging, a gas helium inflation, and a ground support system. Special considerations are made to be simple and easy-to-use because all the systems are operated by inexperienced personnel. The rigging system is simplified for an easy launching operation. The scientific instrument is equipped with shock absorbers for a recovery on sea ice and helicopter recovery fittings. All systems and procedures are tested by personnel who join the expedition in a flight test and ground tests. To help operations at the station, a real time bidirectional data transfer system is introduced utilizing a computer network between Syowa Station and National Institute of Polar
