In the final earth returning phase of the MUSES-C mission, the capsule, which installs surface material of the asteroid, is released from the mother spacecraft and it enters directly into the earth atmosphere with hyper-velocity of the interplanetary orbit. In order to retrieve the asteroid sample material on the ground, the capsule necessarily has three major functions. They are (a) thermal protection from severe heat flux, (b) deceleration and soft landing to protect inside instruments, and (c) localization for the capsule recovery. This paper describes system overview of the MUSES-C reentry capsule together with design philosophy and verification methods.
