A description on the 5×15cm. Shock tube recently built at I.S.T. is given in this report together with some results obtained in the preliminary experiment. The length, width and height of the shock tube are 500cm., 5cm. And 15cm., respectively. Pressure in the compression chamber is always kept at 1 atm. And that of the expansion one below atmospheric. Instantaneous schlieren pictures can be taken through a wide window at the testing chamber. Shock velocity is measured accurately by use of an electronic time-counter combined with photo-multiplier pick-ups. |
