The main features of this machine are as follows : (1) The mean bearing prsssure can be raised above 1,000 kg/cm^2 for which the viscosity of the oil film is expected to increase conspicuously. (2) The projected bearing area is so large that there may be constructed fluid film in the bearing even under extremely high pressure. (3) The frictional moment can be measured accurately. For the test bearings are used two half-bearings in pair, each of which has the standard dimension of 50mm × 50mm. High pressure oil of about 300kg/cm^2 is used as the loading medium of the bearing, being transmitted to the loading piston of the bearing through the torsion bar which is used for measuring the frictional moment of the test bearings. Total load on the bearings can easily be raised above 25 ton and the mean pressure above 1,000kg/cm^2 can easily be obtained. The test journal is set vertically and is driven through gimbal by D. C. motor.
