In the alkali halide crystals it is well established from both experimental and theoretical points of view that there exist the various colour centers which are responsible for the characteristic absorption bands or discolouration of the mentioned crystal. Up to the present the electronic structures have been fairly clarified only for F-, F'- and U- centers by many investigators, but the complex centers recently put forward by Seitz through the qualitative consideration seem unfortunately not to be closely connected with the experimental evidence in spite of the very attractive features. The entirely new, i. e., K absorption band of rock salt observed experimentally by Uchida seems to suggest to be in a close connection with one of the above mentioned complex centers, and, therefore, we have worked theoretically the electronic structures of F_2^+-center by Heitler-London's method of approximation together with Tibbs' model in a special reference to Uchida's experimental results. |
