By comparing theoretical results with experimental ones, the physical validity of the present theory is discussed. The effect of compressibility upon the mean characteristics of a cascade is found to depend upon the root of harmonic mean square of upstream Mach number (M^^^-^*_<-∞>). Experimental correlation is satisfactory as far as M^^^-^*_<-∞> of the shear flow lies below a certain limit value, and this limit value corresponds to the two-dimensional Mach number beyond which the small disturbance theory for two-dimensional cascade shows poor validity.
