The experimental condition of the flat plate covers the range of the rarefaction parameter up to 20,and the measured results bridge the regions predictable by the strong interaction theory and by the free molecule theory. The rarefied flow around the cylinder was obtained up to the Knudsen number of 400. The so-called \"shoulder wave\" was found to exist in the region between the free molecule flow and the continuum flow.
