The fundamental non-linear simultaneous partial differential equations for the thermoelastic problem are derived from the variational principle and are solved, and it is shown that, if there exists the temperature gradient through the thickness of the plate as seen in the aerodynamic heating, the plate starts to deflect at the moment of heating and does not exhibit the buckling phenomenon according to the mode of temperature distribution and the boundary conditions.
