A new instrument for the measurement of the moisture content in porous medium is investigated. It was found that the effects of moisture content to the outward heat transfer coefficient of the hot-wire can be utilized to know the humidity of porous medium. The main parts of the instrument are two hot-wires with different resistances, which form the two elements of Wheatstone bridge. By the difference of the heat flow from these hot-wires the temperature effect of the concerning medium is compensated automatically. The theories of the measurement and temperature compensation are investigated and reported in the present paper. The tested properties for the three types of hot-wire elements are fairly good especially in the region of low humidity. The calibration curves and the examples of practical applications are also presented. (Received October 23, 1951) |
