内容記述 As already shown in the 4th Report, the cooling capacities and the pressure drops of engine-air-coolers of a number of types may be ascertained experimentally with the aid of ducts and a blower, although this procedure entails a number of experiments with numerous types of coolers. The engine-air-cooler usually consists of two cooler-cores, namely, those for the engine air and those for the cooling air, both of which are similar to the ordinary liquid-cooler-core used in cooling the water jackets of engines. For this reason, the overall temperature efficiencies may be calculated, as shown in Reports I-III, from the temperature efficiencies of the cores for the engine-air side and the cooling-air side. Seeing, however, that the ratio of the cross-sectional area of the core to the cooler ducts is about 0.3 to 0.6 in the case of the engine-air coolers and about 0.8 in that of the liquid cooler, it is necessary to know the effect of the area ratio on both the temperature efficiencies and the resistance coefficients of the air flow. Our experiments showed that the various values obtained with the same types of core effect the temperature efficiencies to only a slight extent (Figs.2-6), whereas smaller values of the area ratio increase the resistance coefficient Cr of the cores. Fig.7 gives the relation of the area ratio f to increase in the resistance coefficient ΔCr=0 for the ideal case of f=I. The values of ΔCr are smaller, generally, than those obtained by Weisbach for the case of the abrupt converging and abrupt diverging flow.
