内容記述 The present paper aims at the discovery of the solution of the buckling problem of a rectangular plate clamped at its four edges. In spite of its importance in structural construction, this problem has not yet been solved. The author, however, succeeded in arriving at the solution by allowing a small modification on the boundary conditions of this problem. The solution of the problem is, of course, deduced from the differential equation of the critical stability such that [numerical formula], in which w is the deflection of the plate, x, y Cartesian co-ordinates parallel to edges, P_1 P_2 the thrusts acting parallel to x and y axes respectively, and D_1 defined by [numerical formula], where E is Young's modulus, σ Poisson's ratio and h the thickness of the plate. According to the results of the calculation for the case of a square plate with its sides of a, the following sets of P_1 and P_2 are the critical thrusts acting at the edges. [table] The value of the critical thrust P_1 in the case, in which the length of the plate a is not equal to the breadth b, and the thrust P_2 is zero, is tabulated below. [table] From the results given in this table and these for a long elastic plate clamped at periphery, it may be seen that the condition of the buckling of a plate for which a/b=2 is practically the same as that for a plate for which a/b=∞.
