内容記述 The motion and the attitude of the "City of Tacoma" during the unsuccessful start for the Trans-Pacific flight from Kasumigaura on the 30th of August, 1930, were measured photogrammetrically. The fuel was discharged through the emergency valves 89 seconds after the start, the distance of 1557 meters having been run of the total runway of 1900 meters, and the velocity of 125 km./h. having been attained. With this velocity the "unstick" would have been possible, if the lift coefficient of the wing had been over 1.42. As the aeroplane actually took off the ground in only 0.6 second after the commencement of the discharge, the lift coefficient might well be assumed very close to this value. The tail did not rise throughout the failed take-off run except the bouncing probably caused by some obstacles on the runway. If the center of gravity were situated further forward to raise the tail easier, or if a tail wheel or tail carriage, which can be left on the ground, had been adopted, the ground friction would have been much reduced, and the take-off might have been more possibile. The limit of overloading for the "City of Tacoma" is calculated by the author's own method from the measured climbing velocity during the fuel discharge, and found to be about 4500 kg.
