It has been theoretically and experimentally evidenced that the viscosity-temperature coefficient at the same viscosity of liquids is an unique function of their chemical structure. For a number of synthetic high-molecular-weight hydrocarbons, the viscosity-temperature coefficients at their respective temperatures having the same viscosity of 100 centistokes, e. i., the values of -((dυ)/(dt))_υ=100 c.s. have been calculated by means of Walther's viscosity-temperature equation, and it has been substantiated that the coefficients thus calculated are always definitely correlated with their chemical structure, with the conclusion that the greater the "entangling degree" of molecules of a hydrocarbon, which depends upon its molecular structure and is decidable under an assumption by the size or length of cyclic nuclei and paraffinic side chains together with the size and allocation of branched chains in the molecule, the smaller its value of -((dυ)/(dt))_υ=100 c.s. or its "structure viscosity index," -[((dυ)/(dt))_υ=100 c.s.+5]×100. A criterion for grading the viscosity characteristics of hydrocarbons may be given by both the values of viscosity and "structure viscosity index," and as for compounds of comparative viscosities, the smaller the structure viscosity index, the more excellent the viscosity characteristics. From this point of view, it has been pointed out what molecular structure to be required for a hydrocarbon to have the best viscosity characteristics. It has been also shown that the viscosity characteristics of commercial mineral and fatty lubricating oils and the effect of such an addition agent as paratone can be reasonably explicated by the idea of structure viscosity index., 資料番号: SA4146973000}, pages = {110--136}, title = {分子構造より見た潤滑油成分の粘度特性}, volume = {15}, year = {1940} }
