内容記述 | The above theory of the coefficient of Thomson effect is summarised below:- (1) From the calculation of the work against the internal balancing electromotive force as well as the energy of electrons dissociated in metal, the formula for the Thomson effect has been obtained. (2) This formula was applied to the case of Cu, Ag, Au, Al and Pb, compared with Borelius' observed values, and the percentage of dissociated electrons estimated. For Cu, Ag, Au i. e. metals belonging to the first group of periodic system itis given by A_0T^<3/2>, for Al i. e. a metal belonging to the third group, A_0T^<3.3/2> and Pb i. e. a metal belonging to the fourth group, A_0T^<2.6/2>, these values being close to that expected from Richardson's phenomena of thermions. (3) Our formula gives the value of σ at any temperature. For instance at low temperatures near absolute zero, the value of σ is different for different metals, but at T=0 it becomes to zero for all metals. Now applying the second law of thermodynamics, the coefficient of Peltier effect P i. e. heat produced in the junction of two metals A and B when electric current flows from A to B, is given by the following formula [numerical formula], where T is the absolute temperature at the junction, and σA and σB are coefficients of Thomson effect of two metals at T. But σA and σB are zero at T=0, consequently P is also zero, hence we get [numerical formula] Hence, using the above formula of σ, the Peltier effect can be calculated. The author wishes to express his hearty thanks to Professor K. Honda of Tohoku Imperial University for his kind advise to the present paper. | |||||||
