内容記述 This is a report of studies in the velocity distribution of streaming water in tubes of circular and square cross-section, both with obstacles placed in the stream and without. The method of study consisted in photographing the aluminium particles suspended in the streaming water. A light ray in the form of a thin plate was sent from a side of the tube through a glass window and the images of the aluminium particles about this light ray were taken on a photographic plate placed in the direction normal to both the tube and the incident light ray. First the optical system is described and then some examples of the photographs thus taken are shown with brief comments. The remainder of the paper discusses the velocity distribution of water in the tubes. The experimental results are compared with the theoretical distribution in each case. In the case of the tube of square cross-section, the general velocity distribution was tested with special observations made at points close to the boundary surface, when it was found that the results agree with the theoretical values with the assumption being that there are no slips at the boundary surface. In the case of the tube with circular cross-section, special attention was paid to the boundary surface only. To increase the stress at the boundary, a core in the form of thin wires was fixed in the tube. The points of slip or no slip to be tested were taken on the surface of these cores. The existence of a layer detached from the other parts was tested by the position of the maximum velocity in the tube when some stagnant layers were found close to the central core but there were no slip. Some constants in connection with this layer were deduced by a comparison with the theoretical expectations.
