| 内容記述 | This paper is a continuation of our previous cne on the same subject. It is a report of an experimental study on clouds obtained from incense and four substances which are used in military smoke-screens. They have two maximum points in the transmissibility-wave-length diagram, which is perhaps due to the complex nature of the combustion products of the samples. Some discussions on the inapplicability of Rayleigh's scattering formula to our problem are also contained in this paper. The inapplicability of the formula seemed conclusive from our study. Colour observations of the filament were compared with our experiments. The results seem understandable from the qualitative standpoint. The radii of the cloud particles were deduced by observing the velocities of settling of the cloud and by assuming the densities to be equal to that of water. By comparing the radius of the particles thus measured we found that the positions of the second maximum transmissibilities for each cloud have no definite relation to the radius, which is why we took account of the nature of the surfaces of the particles to explain this problem. The first maximum point seems to shift to the long wave-length side as the radius of the particles increased. The amount of the shifting was deduced to be 800 Å with an increase of 10^-4cm. in the radius. The position of the maximum point for the cloud of water particles of radius 20×10^<-5>cm. was anticipated to be about 5300Å. | |||||||||
