内容記述 In this paper is described a special photographic methcd of measuring the relative intensity distribution of scattered rays from a cloud of particles, with which method the scattered rays from clouds of particles of incense and NH_4CI were measured. The resulting distribution curves showed minimum scattering at certain scattering angles, which however do not agree with the positions that have been determined from known theoretical results. Our results are very smooth curves and it is propcsed to consider each particle as being constructed in graded form, that is, different in nature according to its distance from the center. Thus the resultant scattered rays is the superposed effect of the action of particles of different sizes and optical constants. With these presumptions the results can be explaned. In general, the backward scattering diminishes as the wave-length of the incident rays becomes longer. But the general form of the resulting curves, theoretical and experimental, closely resemble each other. Only for longer wave-length of the incident rays, the point of minimum scattering become less definite than in the case of shorter wave-lengths. Short discussions on scattered energy then follow. The sesult of this discussion seems to show that the amount of the scattered energy is far greater than that theoretically expected. From these experimental facts, it is clear that the transmissibility of a cloud of particles of NH_4Cl and of incense does not exactly follow theory. The experimental facts above stated are given in the first part of this paper. No numerical relation between transmissibility and the present results could be established, since the absolute scatteied energy could not be accurately determined from our experiments. The weakest feature of our experiment was our inabitity to maintain constant uniformity of the scattering particles, despite all our attempts to do so, but our experimental results are quite reliable.
