内容記述 Model airscrews of one third the original size were rotated with an electric motor, and the pressure-variation quite close to the blade, i. e. the pressure-variation before and after the moment the blade crosses the front of the microphone was recorded by means of an electrical arrangement, consisting of a condenser microphone, an amplifier, and an oscillograph. On the front side of the blade, that is the side facing the direction in which the airscrew would proceed, the initial impulse is suction, which changes to pressure as soon as the blade crosses the front of the microphone. On the reverse side, that is the side to which the slip-stream flows out, the order is contrary, pressure coming first. In the plane of rotation the impulse is simply suction, which does not change to pressure. In the case of a rod with cross section of stream-line form, the form of the pressure-variation on the front and reverse sides, as well as in the plane of rotation was always found to be the same as that on the front side of an airscrew blade. The magnitude of the pressure-variation differes remarkably according to the distance from the tip even on the same side of the blade. It is greatest on the front side and smallest in the plane of rotation. Influences of the number of revolutions, the distance and the blade shape on the wave-form and magnitude of the pressure-variation were also determined, and finally experiments were made in order to obtain some knowledge in regard to the formation of sound.
