内容記述 §25. Recently the present writer has proposed a new method for dealing with the two-dimensional subsonic irrotational flow of a compressible fluid, by the use of which he has studied, in collaboration with Mr. AIHARA, the flow past an elliptic cylinder. In this paper the method is applied to the case of a profile derived from a circle by means of JOUKOWSKI transformation, and the expression for the velocity potential correct to the order of M^2, where M=U/c_∞ is the MACH number formed with the fluid velocity U and velocity of sound c_∞ of the undisturbed stream, is obtained. On the basis of this general formula, the velocity distribution on the surface of the cylinder as well as the lift and moment acting on the profile as affected by the compressibility of the fluid are considered. In particular, the two cases of interest, namely those of an elliptic cylinder and a symmetrical JOUKOWSKI aero foil are dealt with in special detail; and convenient formulae for the lift and moment are obtained, some errors found in KAPLAN's paper being corrected. Lastly, as a typical example of cambered aerofoils, a circular arc aerofoil set at zero angle of attack is considered, and the lift and the critical MACH number are studied in their relation to the magnitude of camber. In conclusion, I wish to express my hearty thanks to Professor K. TERAZAWA and Professor S. TOMOTIKA for their stimulating interest throughout the present investigation.
