内容記述 An oscillating main plane of aeroplane was replaced by a bound vortex and a trailing vortex sheet extending into infinity. The strength of the bound vortex varies according to the periodic change of lift, while that of the vortex sheet is distributed so that the total circulation in any circuit moving with the air remains constant. The induced velocity at any point in the downwash of the main plane was obtained by a successive partial integration in a form of infinite series. A simple formula giving the induced velocity at any point was obtained under the assumption that the distance of the point from the vortex sheet is small compared with the wave-length of oscillation, presuming a simple harmonic oscillation of the main plane. The change of the induced velocity due to a simple harmonic oscillation of the main plane is also simple harmonic with varying amplitude and phase. The amplitude decreases with the increase of the distance from the main plane and approaches rapidly to its asymptotic value. The phase of oscillation of the induced velocity at a point, whose distance is large compared with the wave-length of oscillation, propagates with the velocity of general flow. But for a point nearer to the main plane the propagation of phasa is much slower.
