内容記述 | A simple formula for the distance of landing run is proposed (Chap. 1). By this formula the coefficient of ground friction of the whole landing gear μ is calculated from the observed landing distances for several aeroplanes (Chap. 2). An aeroplane with the main wing dismantled was towed by a motor-car. When a constant speed was attained the tow-wire was cut off, and from the time necessary for the aeroplane to stand still, the coefficient of wheels μ_1, and that of tail skid μ_2 were measured. Assuming that the coefficient of ground friction of wheels μ_1 remains constant for all aeroplanes, that of tail skid μ_2 was calculated for 3 aeroplanes from μ given in Chap. 2. The difference of the value μ_2 for each aeroplane can be attributed to the widely varying bearing area of the tail skids. (Chap. 3). | |||||||
