When the two spots were simultaneously generated side by side, they merged into a larger single spot downstream. The merged spot had a larger velocity-defect region on their center plane, where the turbulence energy was intensified from either of the original spots. When the two spots were generated with phase lag, the upstream one reduced the area of its velocity-defect region and the turbulence intensity apparently decreased there.
