The transformation process from a shear-layer to separated vortices is simulated by solving two dimensional vorticity-transport equations. As a result of a detailed investigation on the interaction of vorticity field with velocity field, it is suggested that a parameter associated with the inner product of vorticity gradient and velocity vector can be used to estimate the instability of flow field. A feasibility of this parameter when it is used for transition control is also
