The emphasis is on the process of vortex deformation, induction of the flow on the free surface, evolution of surface vortices and interaction between the surface vortices and vortices in the water. Experiments were conducted under the two surface conditions, i.e. a clean surface and a surface contaminated with surfactant droplets. The electrolysis method by use of a fine silver wire as an anode was employed to visualize the flow beneath the free surface without contamination of the surface of water.
