The motion of dust grains, released from comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 (SL9), has been examined, considering the influence of the Jovian magnetosphere. Especially, reentering of these grains to the Jovian magnetosphere in the middle of July 1994 is studied. It is found that the charges on the surface of the dust grains with radii of the order of 0.1 micrometer are changed dramatically in the plasma torus formed by Io. The resulting Lorentz forces on them become dominant perturbation compared with the solar radiation pressure forces. As a result, it is expected that the small dust grains have been changed their orbits forward the Jovian Arctic, when SL9 collided with Jupiter. |
