JAXA has developed the“KIRARI OICETS” (Optical Inter-orbit CommunicationEngineering Test Satellite) and established acquisition, pointingand tracking techniques on orbit. The optical communicationterminal “LUCE” on “KIRARI” is large (150 kg) and has a lowdata rate (50 Mbps) compared to the practical requirementimposed, hence our wish to achieve a more high speed, compactand long-lasting optical communication terminal. We describeour recent activity to achieve a new-generation opticalcommunication terminal by applying excellent ground opticalcommunication technologies and new devices.
