The SLATS uses an ion engine system to compensate for air drag and keep its altitude. A power processing control unit (PPCU) in this ion engine system (IES) has been developed in three phases of BBM, partial EM and PFM. The PPCU is a power supply that includes sequence control function of an ion thruster. The integration reduces the IES cost, volume and mass. The control algorithm is considerably different from that in the Kiku-8 geostationary satellite. A highly autonomous control is utilized for the IES as the communication time between the SLATS and a ground station is very short. The BBM and partial EM tests have finished.
