In this study, a prototype 3D (Three Dimensional) image input/output system for this purpose was experimentally constructed, and functional evaluation tests have been performed for individual system components, especially the optical subsystems. This prototype system has a couple of functions for 3D image processing including a single/multi TV (Television)-camera rotation or translation, target object rotation, etc. With these functions, detecting 3D distance information between a TV-camera and an object and measuring object shape can be performed. Furthermore, in this study, sets of basic functional characteristics were obtained from evaluational tests. Overall system composition and system functional tests are discussed in detail together with the results of
