The research consisted of 'Investigation on Tolerance Criteria of Solid Propellant Defects' and 'Nondestructive Inspection Method of Propellant Defects' and much data was collected in these studies, being supported by NAL special research activities. The first report presents roles, features and past failures of upper stage solid motors, and relevant nondestructive inspection methods such as the X-ray TV method, X-ray Computed Tomography (CT), and
