A water-cooled type specimen made of SUS 304 stainless steel was used in the tests. The specimen had a hemispherical shape of 50 mm in radius. In the test, the specimen was heated both in atmospheric air and vacuum, and the temperature of cooling water was measured at the inlet and outlet points to estimate the heat output of the equipment. The test results proved that the designed heat output requirement was satisfied, and the heat output was 6.98 kW in atmospheric air, and 7.26 kW in vacuum. Considering the heating surface area of the specimen, these values of heat output corresponded to the heat flux of 700 kW/sq m and higher. In this paper, the outline of induction heating is first briefly given, then the configuration and the basic design specification of the induction heating equipment are described. The temperature measuring system used in the tests is also explained, and the method for measuring temperatures of the specimen in an electromagnetic field resulting from the induced current, using thermocouples, is described. Finally, the performance tests are discussed in detail together with the results of
