GDEF is able to carry out plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) experiments of diamond from hydrogen-methane mixed gas in space. Under the conditions of low pressure (20 to 50 Torr) and around DC (Direct Current) 400 V, glow discharge occurred and the plasma was generated. The obtained diamond film has a good quality of less non-diamond components than those synthesized in on-ground reference experiments. Changes of plasma condition were observed with a still camera and spectrometers.
