The model was constructed of materials equivalent to those used for the nose cap fitting of the Hypersonic Flight Experiment (HYFLEX) vehicle, and was of the same size. The model was heated using a xenon lamp heating system. Tests were carried out in a vacuum, and the temperature history at selected locations on the model were measured with thermocouples.
