In this wind tunnel test, the control surfaces of the aircraft model (aileron, rudder) are controlled by the outboard computer, and the model is supported by two fore and two aft cables and flies within five dimensions of freedom in the wind tunnel. During the test, the position measurement of the model is necessary to fly the aircraft model safely at the center of the test section. This optical position measuring system was adopted as the position sensor of the flying model. Firstly, the method of measurement and calibration of the optical position measuring system used to control the model position in the wind tunnel are described. Secondly, the factors which cause measurement errors in this system are discussed. Then, in order to decrease the errors, improvement of the hardware and software and the method of calibrating the system are presented. Finally, the results obtained by the improved system are compared with the data obtained by the original system. It is shown that this position measuring system has sufficient performance to measure the position and attitude of the model in the dynamic wind tunnel
