The main objective is to delineate the physical mechanism of oscillations. The investigation is done experimentally as well as numerically. Some model problems are analyzed numerically to identify some important features of oscillations. The model predictions are compared with the experimental information whenever possible. The oscillation process is shown to be very much affected by the flow in the hot corner and by the thermal boundary layer along the hot wall.
