This will depend in part on achieving a design that incorporates significant technology gain in both supersonic and transonic aerodynamic efficiency. The CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) will play an important role to realize this ambitious goal. This paper attempts to present the expected roles of CFD in the following areas: (1) accurate and precise drag estimation; (2) development of the high performance wing using MDO (Multi Disciplinary Optimization); (3) low boom configuration design; (4) local flow calculation; and (5) flutter analysis. CFD tools are required to be easy operation for designer, to be short turnaround time and to be well correlated with actual phenomena. Those tools should be developed with close coordination between the researcher and end
