The flight tests were conducted using National Aerospace Laboratory of Japan's research helicopter and airplanes. The visual range, horizontal light distribution and vertical light distribution were examined using flight data. The visual range was approximately 1.5 nautical miles in the daytime, and more than five nautical miles at night. Within the visual range, the aircraft approached accurately according to the indicated path. The pilot commented that the background of the lights affected
