Two characteristic modes of velocity fluctuation in the two-dimensional jet, i,e. the symmetrical and anti-symmetrical mode, were acoustically excited to improve the reproducibility in appearance of the vortex arrangement in each exciting mode. The employment of conditional sampling and phase averaging for the hot-wire outputs made it possible to catch the coherent vortex arrangements was clearly observed in vorticity contour maps.
