The boundary layer theory of magnetic reconnection is presented. The theory is a singular perturbation theory for small diffusivity. In the theory a whole region is divided into an ideal region and a boundary layer. The time evolution of reconnection is obtained by demanding that a solution in the boundary layer asymptotically matches to a solution in the ideal region. Typical time scales of several types of reconnections are shown. |
