Atomizing air velocity (or pressure difference) was varied in a range wider than the conditions of actual engines. The sauter mean diameter (SMD) decreased at approximately a 1.5 power of the atomizing air velocity, being a higher velocity index than the previously reported values of 1-1.2. It was unexpectedly found that the effect of the liquid/air flow ratio was small.
