The equation treated here has the generalized form of the Orr-Sommerfeld equation which arises from hydrodynamic stability theory. The method of solution consists of power series solutions, matrix representation of the solutions and transformation of the matrices. The method is highly accurate for the calculation of eigenvalues in linearized problems and can also be applied to nonlinear problems in the stability theory. The solutions are obtained for spatially growing infinitesimal disturbances in plane Poiseuille flow and in Blasius flow.
