This paper describes and summarizes three experiments with unstable second-order controlled elements. In the experiments, the moving-base simulator was employed as the motion cue device, while an attitude director indicator or projected visual field was employed as the visual cue device. The experiments confirmed that, with the aid of the motion cue, pilot control performance was improved and that the human control limit was expanded. In order to clarify the mechanism of these effects, the describing functions of human pilots were identified utilizing spectral and time domain linear analysis.
