Generally speaking, the unloading of flywheels for the satellite attitude control system, using gas jets, generates a very large attitude deviation, as the magnitude of jet torques are far larger than the motor torques of flywheels. Therefore, sometimes it is necessary that the mission of the satellite is intermitted during the unloading time. In this paper, the unloading is classified into two groups:one is a bit unloading, and the other is a large amount unloading at a time. The former is attained by a single pulse jet, and the latter by pulse train jets. Improvement of the former is attained by introducing concepts of program control:the flywheel is decelerated(in case of reaction wheels)at the same time as the jet is fired at a maximum torque, until the angular momentum generated by the flywheel reaches an equal level as that of the one generated by the jet. The quantity of the angular momenta is detected by sensing the angular velocity of the satellite. Therefore, the inherent uncertainty of the program control is excluded by this proposed method. Improvement of the latter is attained by the following means:at the beginning of the unloading, the main control actuator changes from the flywheel into the reaction jet. At the same time, the flywheel is decelerated at a maximum torque, until the flywheel speed reaches a desirable one. The torque is considered as a disturbance torque, which is cancelled out by the main control actuator(i.e.the jet). The above mentioned two improvement methods are experimented using an air bearing table which constructs a simulated satellite. The results show their superiority over the conventional methods. |
