The following types of filters are examined in this study: 1.An ideal band pass filter 2.A trapezoidal filter 3.A butterworth type band pass filter. It was found that the values of the irregularity factors were approximately equal among these filters if only the end-slopes were the same rates. As the band width of filters increases, irregularity factors increase monotonically and approach the respective constant values depending on the end-slopes. This implies that the noise characteristics relevant to the fatigue damage such as statistical aspects of the height of the rise and fall or the distribution of the peak values is not changed for a broad band random time history.
