It is pointed out that subjective information is often given in inspection results because of the fuzzy environment which arises from the inspectors′ judgement. Therefore, it is difficult to make use of the fuzzy information under conventional statistical theories. In this study, an attempt is made to investigate the fuzzy information expressed in terms of linguistic variable and to consider the fuzzified Bayes′ theorem in order to obtain posterior probability from the information. According to this approach, a priori uncertain parameters are estimated from the data collected during in service inspections.
