The figure-eight wing motion is considered based on observations of the hovering flight of bumblebee Bombus terrestris. The Reynolds number is 8800 and Mach number is 0.0485 based on the chord length and the maximum translational velocity of the wing. Fluid dynamics, aerodynamic force generation, and sound generation are analyzed and discussed. Computed results indicate that most of the aerodynamic forces are generated in the transverse motion of the wing due to the downwash and the production of the leading-and trailing-edge vortices.
