As a result, a niche was identified for payloads between 1(kg) and 500(kg) and for ranges between 100(km) and 1000(km). It was suggested that this area of transport is suitable for UAVs and will be a performance requirement for future aircraft development. The range of a fixed-wing aircraft powered by an electric battery was calculated, and it was suggested that the current aerodynamic performance of the electric fixed-wing UAVs would be limited by the increase in battery weight before the above range was achieved. These considerations suggest that aerodynamic performance research will be just as important for future electric fixed-wing UAVs to achieve performance within the vacuum region as it is for electric
