The minimum steering radius of 1/2'' tow was 11 m and that of 1/4'' tow was 3 m. These values were larger than those of normal thickness prepreg tapes, indicating that the steerable radii of thin ply prepreg tapes were limited compared to that of normal thickness tapes. In the layup tapes, common defects such as wrinkles were observed, and moreover a part of the tapes were crumpled due to simultaneous defect occurrences of tow pull up and sheared fibers. Furthermore, for minimizing the limit steering radii, layup speed should be slow down and compaction force should be set to an optimum
