Therefore, the axial gap motor has the advantage of being small size and lightweight because its high efficiency leads to high power density. The authors are researching an electric pump rocket engine, which has a simpler configuration than the conventional turbopump rocket engine. It is expected that the engine system will become simpler and lighter by applying it. Therefore, we have extracted the technical issues and conducted technical studies on the application. One of the technical problems is that the axial gap motor has a gap between the rotor and the stator in the axial direction, so the influence on the motor torque when the gap changes. This JAXA-RM focused analytically on the torque behavior when axial displacement of the motor occurs.
