Iwate Citizen Information Exchange Center (Aiina)), Morioka, Iwate, Japan, Measuring supersonic jet noise in the near field is significant for comprehending the aerodynamic noise-generating mechanism. However, when measuring noise near a supersonic jet using a conventional microphone, the acoustic field and flow field may be disturbed due to interference with the microphone housing. Here, we propose a method for measuring the propagation direction and sound pressure level of jet noise using a laser and a position-sensitive detector (PSD), which can measure them without disturbing the flow field and acoustic field.
