Taconis oscillation in a closed long tube is studied by the numerical simulations of the 2D compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Both end walls of the tube are hot (T = T(sub H)), and the central regions of side walls are cold (T = T(sub C)). A spontaneous oscillation is amplified when the temperature ratio (T(sub H)/T(sub C)) is large, and damping when the temperature ratio (T(sub H)/T(sub C)) is small.
